Looking inside Myrna and Danny's home

Looking inside Myrna and Danny's home

April 26, 2022

"We thought: let them come up with something beautiful!"

15 years ago, while still a student, Myrna moved to Breda and went to live in her grandparents' house. After a few years, her partner Danny moved in with her. Myrna's grandparents had very different tastes and after all these years, the house could use a facelift. The couple decided to go for it and together created a completely new layout. This new layout created space for a large, modern kitchen.

This is what makes our kitchen so special

Myrna's mother lives in Den Bosch on the residential boulevard, where one of our I-KOOK is located. She was positively surprised after looking at the website and drew Myrna's attention to pay a visit. Myrna and Danny chose the store in Etten-Leur, which was closer. 'We did have a bit of an idea, but we thought: let them come up with a nice design,' says Myrna.

The couple had thought about a possible layout beforehand. What they wanted was a peninsula with a large cabinetry behind it.

They had already gotten some ideas from Pinterest and were well prepared to meet with kitchen coach Arif. One of the most important wishes was lots of storage space, and lots of it! The old kitchen was often a mess. Simply because we didn't have enough storage space," says Myrna.

'Nowadays more and more people are going for a black kitchen. We had also seen many examples of it. Yet our preference was more for a white kitchen. We ended up being very happy with that. It has a modern and fresh look, which fits well with the rest of our interior," Danny says. The couple also chose a combination oven and a hood-in-hob, or induction cooktop with an extractor fan. In the old kitchen we still cooked on a gas stove. That's a real difference now. It's hot and ready to cook in no time! It is fascinating to see how the suction draws off the cooking vapors. Ideal! The choice for this cooktop was made fairly quickly, because we had no room for a normal extractor.'

Choosing a worktop was a more difficult task. 'We had composite in mind, but to take into account our budget we were still advised to go for plastic. In the end we are now very happy with it. It takes a bit of care with cutting and hot pans, but we use our new cutting boards. We really like it!" says Myrna.

"It's fascinating to see how the extractor drains the cooking fumes."

A real must-have for Myrna was the pharmacy cupboard. 'You can store so much in here and it's always completely full!' laughs Myrna. Of course the new kitchen couldn't do without a Quooker faucet: 'You'd be surprised how much you use it unnoticed. While cooking pasta, you're done much faster.' A critical point Myrna named filling a pan of water. 'You have to hold the knob with one hand and the pan with the other. After a while that gets pretty heavy. Putting the pan down in the sink is an option, but then you have the chance of splashing again. It's also a good workout for my arms ;)' she laughs.

The kitchen has been in use for a year now. 'When the kitchen came we had to do a lot of remodeling, which required a support beam. We couldn't find a contractor anywhere because of the pandemic.' Arif was able to help the couple find a good contractor. Leen, the contractor gave the couple tips for various things and ensured good insulation during the remodeling. He provided a support beam and he installed the kitchen.

'We were incredibly well served by Arif despite the lockdown. We were able to talk to each other regularly and our kitchen wishes were completely fulfilled!" they conclude together. We wish you lots of fun with the new kitchen and all the storage space .
