General tips

Make sure that the fronts do not get damp (e.g. by using very wet cloths and by condensation during cooking). Always keep the surfaces as dry as possible.

Never leave the door of an oven or combination microwave open after use! The heat from the appliance can cause irreparable damage to the fronts.

Always let the dishwasher dry closed, i.e. never open the appliance door after the washing program has finished! The hot steam coming out of the appliance can damage fronts( (and plastic countertops) beyond repair.

Always switch on the extractor hood during cooking, even e.g. when (odorless) boiling water. Otherwise, the hot cooking fumes can cause irreparable damage to the wall cabinets that hang directly next to (or above) the extractor.

Advantages of an oven with pyrolysis function

  • Cleans itself
  • User-friendly
  • Cleans more thoroughly than cleaning by hand

Disadvantages of an oven with pyrolysis function

  • Costs a lot of energy
  • Stove with pyrolysis more expensive than stove without pyrolysis
  • Smoke and odor problems if no filter or catalytic converter in it

Smoke and odor problems if there is no filter or catalytic converter.

If you use the oven a lot, you can't escape cooking residue left behind. You especially notice this when you turn on the oven and smell burning odors. For example, from a pizza or other oven meal. On stoves without pyrolysis, use oven cleaner to clean the oven. This is a tedious and time-consuming job, but it must be done every now and then. An oven with pyrolysis makes cleaning much easier.

What is the difference between pyrolysis and catalysis?

An oven with a catalytic back wall is another type of self-cleaning oven. A catalytic wall absorbs dirt and grease. This is then burned when the oven has a temperature of 200 degrees Celsius or more. Some ovens have catalytic side and back walls, but most ovens only have a catalytic back wall. When you purchase an oven with catalysis, you often still have to clean the side walls with soapy water.
